GEOFF Holman is right in observing that many local authorities maintain their roads to a much higher standard than Cheshire (Opinion, last week).
Having recently spent a week touring North Yorkshire I can vouch that the rural roads there are maintained to a much higher standard than those in Cheshire, notwithstanding that they must be exposed to some of the harshest winter weather conditions.
If Councillor David Brown, Cheshire East Council’s cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, were to drive to areas beyond the county he would be able to see for himself what ‘improvement’ really means.
That’s if he can reach Cheshire’s borders without suffering serious damage to the wheels and/or suspension of his vehicle, a fate regularly experienced by drivers in Cheshire.
