IN response to Richard Cussons’s recent letter.
It is actually Harrogate MP Andrew Jones who has the Northern Powerhouse brief since it was created by David Cameron and as such he is responsible for coming up with the infrastructure ideas for the Northern Powerhouse.
As former chancellor and first minister George Osborne did a lot of PR work relating to the Northern Powerhouse, rather than coming up with the real ideas.
Also, stating that George Osborne is one of the best chancellors since the last World War and that Gordon Brown damaged the economy is very inaccurate.
Statistically Osborne’s record is much poorer than Ken Clarke’s record as Chancellor.
Clarke also acquired a huge deficit created by Norman Lamont’s poor financial planning, which taking inflation into account was almost as bad as the deficit following the 2008 financial crash when Alistair Darling was chancellor.
Gordon Brown’s record as chancellor is so impressive it makes John Major’s decent record as chancellor look distinguishably average.
