THE proposal to build so many houses and provide an industrial estate on fields to the north west of Knutsford seems to me to be misguided.

Green Lane was once a quiet country lane but is now a busy shortcut for traffic going in and out of the town, avoiding the almost daily congestion on the A50.

Adding hundreds of private and commercial vehicles trying to gain access to the A50 would be a recipe for total gridlock and inevitably create an accident blackspot.

Currently lapwings are calling and displaying over the threatened fields.

This species has been in decline for many years and it seems regrettable, to say the least, that this bird and other wildlife could be endangered locally by a major and inappropriate development.

Breaching the green belt has become an issue nationally and it seems to me that concreting over valuable agricultural land when there are brownfield sites available elsewhere is wrong.

Our green and pleasant land needs to be preserved, not sacrificed to development and further road construction.
