MICHAEL Igoe has made a successful start to the rallying season, writes Ste McNorton.

The Knutsford-based former British GT racer, who just over two years ago was blasting around the UK circuits in his WPI Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3, is now applying his skills in a different field and showing he is a class act.

Igoe, along with his navigator Will Atkins, was at Oulton Park to take part in the Neil Howard Rally stages which is also the first round of the British Championship.

His weapon of choice is the very popular Fiesta R5, which pushes out around 300+bhp and is perfect for the twisty parts of the Cheshire circuit.

With eight stages planned throughout the day, the competitors competed on tarmac, gravel and tackled the famous water splash.

With the red Fiesta going off second, the track was still in great condition and Igoe was straight away pushing on.

However, a close call on the second lap almost ruined his rally when he hit the gate entering the first off-road section, but almost immediately he reversed and was back into the rally.

The pair pushed on hard through the stages and were always in the top three.

As the weather was up and down from light rain to heavy downpours throughout the day, Igoe still managed to keep pace with the others, and come the end of the event the WPI Motorsport Fiesta took a brilliant win.
