ADAM Jenkinson stood on the podium for the first time this season after making the most of rivals’ misfortune at his home circuit on Sunday.

The Bucklow Hill-based rider sat fourth on the last lap of a Pirelli Superstock 1000 Championship race at Oulton Park, only to cross the line second after title-rivals Ian Hutchinson and Taylor Mackenzie to crash out at the final corner.

Champion Josh Elliott took his first win of the season.

Jenkinson, on board his Northern Escalator Installations-backed BMW, had been fifth fastest overall during qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday.

The 32-year-old lost a place initially to Michael Rutter after the start of Sunday’s sprint, but reclaimed the position after overtaking at Shell Oils hairpin.

A tense five-bike battle then followed, during which Jenkinson claimed fourth spot from Keith Farmer.

It leaves the Knutsford ace seventh in the standings ahead of the campaign’s penultimate round at Donington Park this weekend.
