OLIVER Webb spoke of his despair after a fire ruined chances of a first win this season in the World Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring in Germany.

The Knutsford driver, taking over the wheel for the Bykolles team in third spot in the final round of the European based races, was in prime position when power was lost and a fire ensued, forcing a second retirement in as many races.

This was after having positive runs in testing and qualifying second for the six-hour race in front of almost 60,000 fans.

“It feels like we’ve had a victory taken away,” said Webb.

“The balance and speed felt really good all weekend and the team have done an amazing job to give us a car that is capable of wins but we were hit again with reliability problems.

“I was absolutely gutted to lose power and see flames again coming from our car. We’re so close to a big result and I’m really hoping that Mexico (September 3) will be where our season turns around.”
