TOFT maintained a top-four league placing and progressed to the Cheshire Cup quarter finals thanks to two wins at the weekend.

They were achieved in differing circumstances though.

Sunday's cup clash with Macclesfield was blighted by the weather and reduced to 45 overs.

Toft were awarded the win courtesy of a faster run rate after rain ended their innings at 119-4 in their chase of the visitors' competitive 208-8.

Macclesfield scored steadily but as the overs ran out the wickets started to tumble, with Akhil Shah capturing 5-33 on his debut.

Toft lost Australian Morgan Clark and Cheshire star Rob Jones early but skipper Toby Drummond, accompanied by Andrew Jackson, put on 76.

Jackson fell for 50 but Drummond continued to lead from the front.

Toft were rewarded for being well positioned when the heavens opened.

Rain delayed the start of an ECB Premier League game against Neston that was reduced to 39 overs per side on Saturday.

Neston skipper Simon Stokes (95no) batted throughout the innings of 179-6, while Pete Talbot continued his rich vein of form for the Booth's Park men with 4-33.

In reply Toft lost Drummond in the first over but a partnership of 136 between Clark (67) and Jones (81) put the hosts in the driving seat.

Neston spinner Prithvi Saraiya (3-50) made inroads into the Toft middle order but when Jackson came in at number seven Toft needed only three runs for victory.

He dispatched his one and only ball for six over the mid-off boundary to gain his side the full 25 points.
