Egerton 3 Grange Sports 3 (aet, Grange win 4-3 on pens)

EGERTON let slip a two-goal lead, then exited the Northern Cup at the semi-finals stage following a penalty shoot-out on an afternoon to forget.

Yellows appeared on course for the final thanks to goals from captain Rory Pownall and Nathan Billingham, the second shortly after the interval.

However Ryan Wilde halved the Warrington outfit’s arrears at Mereheath Lane before Scott Robinson scored from the spot in the dying moments.

He repeated the trick during extra time to put Grange ahead, only for Scott Barlow to level – also via a penalty – for the hosts.

Egerton’s opponents held their nerve to win the shoot-out, and will face Neston Nomads reserves in the final later this month.

Steve Hardy’s side play their final League One fixture of the campaign at Tarporley Victoria on Saturday week, May 21.
