n Linley 26
MORE than a year on from their previous victory, Knutsford's rugby players can celebrate another.
Blues signed off for the season in Cheshire South by beating Linley on Saturday, prompting captain Sam Bensky to praise his players' resilience.
He said: "These guys have maintained an excellent team spirit in adverse conditions, and have continued to improve.
"It's been a tough year, and we'll look to rebuild over the summer."
The rivals traded tries during an open first half at the Academy, and the visitors picked up in the second period where they had left off.
Knutsford replied when fine support play provided an opportunity for Jack Field to cross the whitewash, edging them in front for the first time.
They applied pressure, and moved four points clear when Ciaran Greaves kicked a penalty.
Now achieving parity at set-pieces, the home team's forwards began to earn possession and territory for their backs division.
A clever kick from Adam Ellery invited Alex Davies to a foot-race with Linley's back three.
He won, touching down his first try for the club.
The visitors' rally late on proved in vain, and Knutsford held on to secure a bonus-point victory.
Bensky thanked coach Geoff Crawford, vice-captain Jon Fuller and Blues' supporters for their loyalty during a difficult campaign.
