Egerton Ladies 1 Chester FC Ladies 0

A STUNNING goal from Tuesday Porritt on Sunday sent Egerton through to the the Cheshire Women’s League Cup last four.

She collected the ball on the left before cutting inside and shooting with power past Chester’s goalkeeper from 22 yards.

The Knutsford outfit’s reward is a head-to-head with Stockport County Heaton Norris Rovers next month.

“It was a goal worthy of winning any game,” reflected happy manager Jay Wright afterwards.

Egerton, buoyed by winning both league meetings between the rivals this season, started as favourites.

But they were made to work for their narrow victory.

Goalkeeper Georgina Charlesworth, following seven shut-outs in the past nine matches, was switched to a striking role.

Gina Adams, Sarah Carbutt and Jess Hughes impressed too after being given an opportunity to impress.

Their side was always in control, and rarely were in danger defensively.

Wright added: “We rested players, and put out a different team.

“But it’s credit to how well the girls are doing at the moment that we have still reached a semi final by beating what is a good footballing side.”

Egerton turn their attention back to the league this weekend when they host Wallasey Wanderers.
