Lancaster University 0 Knutsford 2

KNUTSFORD maintained third spot in the North West Men's League second tier after making hard work of overhauling Lancaster University.

All looked bright as Knutsford went 1-0 up early on through Tom Lewis after great work from Keelan Sherwani, Jim Halling and Price.

Although that settled some nerves, and Knutsford got into their stride with Halling and Trenbirth pulling the strings allowing Sherwani and Lewis to attack Lancaster at pace, Knutsford failed to put the game beyond doubt as chances were missed.

Knutsford appeared to lose control and grew frustrated. losing their structure but not the lead as the back five of Wright, Higgs, Adams, Locke and Lawrence continually thwarted any attacks that Lancaster did make.

Despite the second half starting much better for Knutsford, Price being given a green card – that was upgraded to a yellow after Price remonstrated with the umpire – was a setback Knutsford marshalled that period brilliantly, though, and came back strongly after returning to 11 men.

The game was put to bed after brilliant play between J Price and Lewis J Price left an open net and the latter's shot was destined for the bottom corner only for the covering defender to illegally stop the ball on the line.

Dave Price duly converted the penalty stroke to take the sting out of the Lancaster side as Knutsford regained a little composure, allowing them to see the game out without any more drama.

Knutsford will seek to improve when they welcome Formby to Westfield Drive on Saturday.
