OLIVER Webb has his sights set on a podium finish when the World Endurance Championship resumes in Germany this weekend.

The Knutsford ace will again be behind the wheel of Team Sard Morand’s machine for a six-hour race at Nurburgring, where he will share driving duties with Frenchman Pierre Ragues and Archie Hamilton, who stands in for Zoel Amberg following the Swiss’ injury.

The trio will be hoping for better fortune too after being forced to retire from the Le Mans 24-hour event in June.

“The last race feels like a long time ago,” said Webb.

“We’ve made real progress since the start of the season, showing strong pace and picking up some good results. However we were unlucky at the last round.

“I’m looking forward now to getting back out on track.

“It’s been a busy summer, and I’ve been training hard to make sure I’m ready for the second half of the campaign.”

Sunday’s six-hour race marks the fourth round of the series, with Team Sard Morand targeting points to improve their position in the Endurance Trophy for LMP2 class machines.

It also marks the final European trip on the calendar, with long-haul races in North America, Asia and the Middle East to follow.

Webb said: “We did a test recently and made another step forward.

“The car looks well-suited to the Nurburgring, which is a physical, short track.

“I’m ready for the challenge of competing at some great tracks around the world.”
