ADAM Jenkinson says a 'major problem' with his bike needs a solution after crashing out on his return to racing at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

The Knutsford ace, back on board his Northern Escalator Installations-backed Yamaha R1 following a two-month lay-off to recover from an injury sustained in May, suffered again on only the second lap of the latest Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship race.

After climbing the order to fourth on the opening circuit, the front wheel of his machine was unsettled by small bumps in the surface at Clearways, prompting a spectacular fall.

"It was a pretty big crash, and I'm lucky to have got away with a sore elbow," said Jenkinson.

"The bike is working really well - I'm happy with the power and its handling - but we need to look at the braking issue as it's a major problem that needs to be resolved quickly."

The 30-year-old had set the seventh fastest time during qualifying, leaving him on the grid's third row for the start of a 16-lap race.

Following a brief scare in the warm-up when the bike didn't start, he made up three places to occupy fourth place before his involvement ended early.

"I made some moves to get up to fourth, and felt I had the pace to win so it's a real shame," said Jenkinson.

"We're all working really hard to get to the bottom of what's going wrong. Hopefully we can in time for the next round so we can get a good result."

The series resumes at Thruxton on Sunday week, August 2.
