ADNAN Ghazanfar starred with bat and ball for Knutsford in their Cheshire Alliance opener on Saturday, but it was not enough to help them avoid defeat.

He top-scored with 39, supported by Ben Daniel (29), as they were dismissed for 122 at home to Maritime.

After tea, Ghazanfar (4-54) was the pick of Knutsford’s bowling attack as their guests secured a four-wicket win at 123-6.

In Division One, Holmes Chapel edged a two-wicket win at Trafford, who totalled 202-9 after being put in.

Andrew Thorburn took 4-29.

The visitors replied with 203-8, with skipper Mark Stuart (55no), Glenn Tift (54) and Thorburn (48) contributing at the top of the order.

Mobberley, on their return to the Vivio Cheshire County League’s Division Two, hung on for a losing draw at Widnes.

The hosts posted 258-7, with Chris Kirby (77) and Alex Hewitt (61) both scoring half-centuries.

Opener Charlie Nield (78) and Abdul Aqeel (51) led the visitors’ reply, which had reached 192-7 by the day’s end.

In the TACS Partnership Cheshire League, Ashley lost by six wickets at Bunbury in Division Two.

They set a target of 166, with Farrukh Subhani (37no) making the biggest individual contribution.

Bunbury replied with 168-4, David Alves and Jake Cairns sharing the wickets to fall.

Chelford eased to a 136-run win at Barnton in the same section, posting 239-8, while Over Peover went down by six wickets at home to Aston in Division Three.

Only three batsmen reached double figures as they totalled 98-7, a tally bettered by their guests in less than 40 overs.
