FOOTBALLERS hope to welcome new players after receiving a cash boost.

Styal Football Club has received more than £21,000 as part of government’s drive to get people active.

The money will be used to fund improvements to the grass pitch and maintenance equipment and is part of a £93 million announcement which will benefit 1,100 projects nationwide.

MP Esther McVey welcomed the £21,942 investment from the Multi-sport Grassroots Fund.

TheTatton MP said: “I am delighted that Styal FC were successful in securing funding.

“Grassroot facilities are so important, not only in encouraging people to get active and fit, but also in nurturing future sporting talent.

“I know from visiting different clubs across Tatton what a difference they make to communities.”

Government wants to increase activity levels across the country and hopes providing these new facilities will allow people to have the resources needed to take part in sport.

The latest allocations are part of Government’s commitment to get 3.5 million more people active by 2030 and part of its wider strategy of tackling mental and physical health.

Sports Minister Stuart Andrew said: “Sport and physical activity are vital to our mental health and wellbeing, and each year thousands of people make a New Year's resolution to exercise more.

“We know that one of the major barriers in getting active is having access to high-quality sports facilities, which is why we are upgrading 1,100 more pitches, backed by investing £93 million.”
