A PAIR of 90s Britpop legends are taking things back to basics with an ‘intimate’ acoustic gig in Cheshire.
Ocean Colour Scene bandmates, Simon Fowler and Oscar Harrison, will be hitting the stage at Northwich Memorial Hall on Friday, April 26, with acoustic versions of songs from the band's vast repertoire.
The pair also share stories from their illustrious musical careers, which now go back some 34 years.
As well as performing stripped back versions of Ocean Colour Scene classics, for the hardened fans, the show also delves into the band’s massive back catalogue of songs.
After two previous successful tours, Simon and Oscar will again play intimate seated venues, which have the perfect atmosphere for acoustic performances of their big hits and anthems.
Simon Fowler says the acoustic shows are ‘a real tonic’, adding: “They’re a great chance to look the audience in the eye and interact with them on a more personal basis than ever before.
“We play the songs closer to the way they were written. Most of the songs I wrote - and still write - just with an acoustic guitar and little Sony cassette player like the one you got for Christmas in 1972.
“I still use it now in fact. I managed to buy up Asda’s entire stock of cassettes about four years ago, so I’ll be all right for a while.”
Ocean Colour Scene had a slew of iconic top five albums in the 90s, including Moseley Shoals, Marchin’ Already, and One From The Modern.
They also achieved seventeen top 40 singles, including a staggering run of nine successive top 20 singles and a mantelpiece full of awards.
Simon added: “Behind the swagger and style are great songs, with words and melodies that found their way into the public’s heads and hearts.
“It’s now time to hear these songs again, stripped back, but every bit as good.”
