PLANS have been submitted to build an extension to house a yoga studio at a children’s nursery site in Handforth.

The Wilmslow Road site is operated by Fun Frogs Day Nursery and an application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council to build a single-storey extension for the Yogalife UK studio.

Both businesses will operate from the site and have said the proposed Yoga Studio opening times will not clash with the nursery car park traffic peak times.

A design and access statement submitted by GDA Design Associates Limited on behalf of the applicant, Mr Harrison, states: “Yogalife UK is a yoga studio established in 2013 and is currently operating at Total Fitness on the Handforth Bypass.

"The current landlords - Total Fitness - do not want to renew the lease as they have other plans for the space.”

It adds relocating to the Wilmslow Road site will enable yoga clients to walk, cycle or take public transport to the studio – and the rental income will help the nursery.

“With the increase in utility costs, food costs, basic wage and living wage increases, as well as the proposed government early years free entitlement expanding into all two-year-olds and younger, Fun Frogs Day Nursery will benefit from having a rental income from the yoga studio which will add financial security in these very difficult times for children’s day nurseries,” states the planning document.

It adds: “The proposed extension at 193A Wilmslow Road will allow for the relocation of an established local business into a more suitable location within the community. Yogalife UK and Fun Time Frogs Day Nursery have a close working relationship that will help support both businesses.”

The application, number 23/3106M, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East's website.

The last date for submitting comments is September 6 and the application is to be determined by a planning officer under delegated authority.
