VILLAGERS came together to celebrate the coronation with a fun-filled street party.

Children joined pensioners as long trestle tables were set up outside St Luke’s Church in Holmes Chapel.

Residents were invited to bring their own picnics for The Big Lunch on Sunday as music and entertainment were provided by the parish council.

Pictures captured from the church tower show everyone enjoying sandwiches, cakes and drinks.

A life-sized knitted figure of King Charles in the church garden attracted a lot of interest.

Holmes Chapel Community Yarn Bombers spent three months painstakingly making the seven-foot sculpture.

Anita Armitt, who led the team, said: “The response has been absolutely amazing.

“One lady who saw it featured on TV news travelled miles because she wanted to see it in real life.

“Visitors have come and spent time and money in the village, which is good for local businesses.

“I was on ‘king duty’ making sure he was safe. Lots of people asked me to take their photographs with him.”

To celebrate the sovereign’s passion, knowledge and dedication to ecology, crafters created a wheelbarrow, wellies and a watering can.

The gifted ladies even made butterflies, bees and flowers to celebrate the king’s love of nature.

Anita said: “People were really impressed with our garden display.

“We made a robin on a spade as many people think loved ones come back as robins.

“We thought it would be lovely to include one to remember the late queen.”
