The awards are chaired by Master of Wine Peter Richards and are decided by a panel of industry experts.

Booths wine buyer Victoria Anderson said: “Sharing our love of great wine is a big part of what makes Booths a very special business.

“As a small, independent retailer up against such big competition, it’s a great thrill to have our hard work recognised.

“At Booths, wine is about sharing tastes and encouraging customers to explore and be adventurous in their choices.”

Victoria spent a year living in Spain as part of her degree and travelled around Italy after graduating.

She said: “These experiences gave me a sense of what a passionate, exciting and diverse industry it was and four weeks later I secure a job at a top fine wine merchant.

“Tasting a lot of wine, doing a lot of study and building a solid foundation on the commercial side saw me work my way up to the position of buyer.

“I look for wines that offer both quality and provenance, but I also look for wines that a bit more unusual, so there is always something new to try and explore.

“This might be wines from Armenia, widening our range of quality wines in convenient cans, expanding our range of English wines and creating a range of Booths Brand wines that are top quality to suit a wide range of tastes and budgets.”
