A GROUP of Knutsford primary school children took on Bear Gryll’s survival race to raise more than £1,500 for disadvantaged children.

Pupils in Reception, Year One and Year Two at Bexton Primary School took on the challenge to raise money for Prader-Willi Syndrome in aid of their classmate, Jimmy Wilkinson, who suffers with the condition.

The race, which took place at Tatton Park on Saturday, September 24, saw the children tackle a range of obstacles including climbing over walls, to raise the money.

Beverley Peterson, whose six-year-old son Dylan took part in the race, said: “It went so well, it was lovely. It was a lot more adventurous than I thought it was going to be but they all loved it and there was little climbing walls for them to go on.

“I saw the race when I was looking for something to do myself. I suggested it for the children and said why don’t they do it and raise money at the same time.”

Most of the children who took part were six-years-old although there were a few siblings from the Reception class who were aged just four.

“They are in the same class as Jimmy. We told them more about what Jimmy’s Syndrome is and how it affects him. They are all aware of it.”

“Our target was to raise £200. We have altogether raised more than £1,500 and there are a few outstanding donations to collect. The kids have done really well.”
