POLICE are appealing for information following several incidents of affray and criminal damage in Knutsford.

The crimes occurred in The Moor and Longridge areas between 4pm and 5pm on Wednesday, July 20.

All of the incidents are believed to have involved the same group of people, who are thought to have travelled to Knutsford from outside the local area.

A 13-year-old boy from Stretford has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in relation to one of the incidents; he has been released on police bail.

Inspector Catherine Mitchell from Macclesfield Local Policing Unit said: “I would like to take this as an opportunity to reassure residents that we are working hard to trace the people involved in these incidents and patrols will be increased in the area.

“A full investigation has been launched and we are currently following a number of lines of enquiry. I’d appeal to anyone who believes that they have any information in relation to the incident to Contact Cheshire Police.”

Residents took to social media to discuss the high police presence in the area. 

Joan Ramsdale posted on a community Facebook page: "About 10 or more have gone past my house from Longridge way to Knutsford about an hour ago."

"There about 15/20 of them they got on the train today when we were coming back from shopping they got on the at Altrincham and got off at Knutsford around threeish," added another resident. "They were fighting on the train station the other day.

"They came down looking to kick off but they carry knives, be careful if your teenager is out get them home keep away. 

"If you ask me they shouldn't have even been let on the train."
