TRADERS and exhibitors took up stands and the Royal Cheshire County Show over the course of the two-day event to show off the best of the Cheshire countryside.

For some, the event, which attracted more than 75,000 people to the Tabley Showground, was the perfect opportunity to talk about some of the causes close to their hearts, and for others the chance to garner more business interest for the coming year.

Among the charities hoping to be heard at the show was Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home, who were aiming to raise awareness and funds for the non-for-profit company which helps to rehome and care for abandoned dogs.

The stall, which was adorned in bright orange and inhabited by humans and dogs alike, was popular- attracting animal lovers as they passed by.

Christine Taylor, a volunteer for Cheshire Dogs’ Home, said: “We are volunteers. We all come here because we care so much about the dogs.”

“We come to the show to raise awareness about what we do,” added Kate Roberts, assistant manager. “We provide homes for rescue dogs and also rehome rescues.”

In Shoppers Mews, another charity was hoping to raise awareness about the work that it does to protect the environment.

Terry Robinson of the Woodland Trust informed passers-by of the hard work that the charity does both locally and nationally.

“We look after woodland in the UK with 1231 woods to look after. We get enough interest but we are here actively looking for new members to do what we do. That will enable us to plant more woods.

“We are also planting trees in honour of the First World War soldiers, which are called Centenary Woods.”

Next door to the Woodland Trust stood the Arley Hall stall manned by Caroline Fearon and Dave Groom who were excited to tell people about the national success of the estate.

“We come every year and do very well because there are so many people passing through,” said Dave, one of the gardeners at Arley. “People show interest in the venue for weddings and obviously Peaky Blinders was filmed here, which is coming back for another two seasons.”
