MOBBERLEY Rose Queen Fete went down a storm this year as the weather held out for villagers to celebrate the 93rd annual event.

On Saturday, June 18, residents and visitors lined the streets to watch the Rose Fete procession, which left from Victory Hall and made its way to Hall Bank field for the crowning of this year’s Mobberley Rose Queen, Amelia Thomas-Wade.

Organisers have told the Guardian that the earlier start time of 1pm was ‘incredibly well received’ and gave the visitors more chance to explore the stalls and enjoy their refreshments, which were provided by the Scouts.

“The fete was brilliant this year,” said Lorraine Henshall, chair of the Mobberley Rose Queen Fete committee. “It went really well. The rain stayed off which we all prayed for. The parade was beautiful, the floats all looked fantastic this year and the procession was quite long.”

Amelia was joined by her ladies-in-waiting, Maisie Purcell and Izzy Carol, and the procession included children from across the village dressed in a whole array of outfits, from Toy Story’s Woody and Buzz Lightyear, to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The field was full of various stalls and people were entertained by dancers before the crowning of the new Queen.

“We have a superb committee,” said Lorraine. “Everybody that gets involved in it from the village from the farmers who pull the tractors to the people who set up the field- we just couldn’t do it without their help.

“We raise money for the fete every year by selling raffle tickets – it is all self-funded. We really rely on the generosity and support of all of the local people.”
