ONE of Knutsford's most popular play areas is set to get a revamp with a range of new equipment – just two year's after its previous refurbishment.

The plans were rubber stamped at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Moor group on Wednesday, May 18.

The group, along with Cheshire East Council, has asked for part of the surface to be relaid, in particular the rubber mulch area, following a general feeling of disappointment among members.

After a year of conversations between the Friends of the Moor, Cheshire East Council ANSA services and the original contractor, the offer was made to redo the surfacing with a sub base.

The Friends group told the Guardian it then took the initiative to say that this presented an opportunity to go ahead with phase 2 and dig out the tarmac area and design the whole area with some extra play equipment.

The plans show that there will be a new playhouse as part of a multi-unit that caters for abilities between the current items, a new roundabout, more social groupings of springers and a couple of play panels, plus more swings.

One set of baby cradles and a basket plus a five-way swing will also be located outside of the current area.

The proposal was completed in time to be circulated prior the annual meeting.

Chair Debbie Jamison said “Since the play area on the Moor was renewed in 2014, the numbers of residents and visitors enjoying the area has increased.

"Lots of positive comments have been made plus a new wish list created for the ‘next time’.

"I put forward the proposal where members attending voted unanimously to go ahead with the plans.

"The new equipment will be paid for by monies in the 106 account and a Knutsford Town Council grant of £1,500 and work will take place later this summer following the contractual agreement between Cheshire East ANSA and the supplier," Debbie added.

The next opportunity to meet the Friends group will be at the Lions Street Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30.
