KNUTSFORD'S Christmas market and annual crib service have been cancelled today, Sunday, due to safety fears as a result of the forecast of high winds.

The market, which started on Saturday as part of the Knutsford Christmas weekend, has been called off after organisers decided it would not be safe for stall holders and visitors.

The annual crib service due to take place later at 4pm has also been cancelled and will take place next weekend, Saturday, December 5.

Knutsford Town Council, which runs the Christmas market, posted on Facebook: "Due to an increase in the forecast wind speeds today on Princess Street, we have decided to cancel the Christmas market to ensure the safety of all involved.

"The crib service will now take place after the Lantern Parade next Saturday, December 5."

On Twitter, Knutsford Christmas @KnutsfordXmas, added: "Unfortunately wind speed forecast for today has increased and looks set to make Princess St a wind tunnel. We've had to cancel the market."

Other markets in the area, taking place in West Didsbury and Spinningfields in Manchester, have also been called off due to the weather.
