A GROUP of Knutsford volunteers have launched a new webpage showcasing memories of the town dating back fifty years.

The archive, called Creation of a Community, has been developed by the volunteers with the help of Great Places Housing Group and the Welcome Cafe in Longridge.

The site focuses on life in Shaw Heath and Longridge from the late 1960s and 70s, through to the present day.

As part of the project, interviews have been conducted in the area since the start of the year, and will continue until Christmas 2015.

Pat McAndrew, who is leading the project, said: “Shaw Heath and Longridge have such a fascinating history, first as farming communities, then as modern urban design and now as established communities with many types of people and over forty years of memories.

“The Creation of a Community web archive hopes to capture some of these for the future. Those memories are only a click away: anyone can experience them.”

The archive collects memories of older generations and their move from Manchester and other parts of Cheshire, as well as involving younger people’s reminiscence of growing up and having families of their own in the town.

Some of the personal recollections include carnival photos throughout the years, stories of creating news gardens, ballroom dancing and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations in 1977.

Anyone wishing to celebrate their memories of Shaw Heath and Longridge can add their own memories to the site at www.creationofacommunity.com.
