KNUTSFORD’S very own ‘Pulse of Perfumery’ has been named in the top five ‘scent destinations’ in the UK.

The list, compiled by The Perfume Society and published in the Daily Telegraph, explores the five most ‘fabulous’ perfumeries across the country.

Pulse of Perfumery, also known as POP, was set up three and a half years ago by Peter Murray, 55, and his fiancée Melanie.

Peter said: “I’m totally chuffed about being named in the list. When the Perfume Society asked people about their favourite perfumery- we were inundated with Tweets.

“We have brought to Knutsford, and to the North of England, our offering of the beautiful, niche fragrances which we know they want.

“We sell premium brands and high quality perfumes, but we ensure that each product maintains its integrity.”

“People are looking for independent shops. And for the service we provide- our prices are the same as anywhere else, we don’t charge any differently.”

The couple, who now live in Snelson, gave up their idyllic cottage in Buckinghamshire to move to Cheshire and set up the shop on Princess Street.

“I have been studying perfume for 32 years,” said Peter. “It is what I am most passionate about. People may know me as Mr Smelly or Mr Pop, but that’s just because I love going the extra mile.

“We care about each customer coming back, that’s where our loyal database of people comes from.

“We have just fewer than 3000 people who are on our radar, which is great for a little shop in Knutsford.

“I do private consultations around four evenings a week, because that’s what I love to do. And I want people to know that they can just pop in for a cup of tea or coffee, or even a glass of fizz and try things out- even if they walk away with nothing at the end of it.”

Peter said he has seen Knutsford grow over the last three and a half years, with various shops filling the 16 empty units that lined the high streets when he first arrived.

He said: “We just knew that Knutsford had the potential to thrive. I think people are now realising what our shop is about, and now we are becoming a real part of this town.”
