BARCLAYCARD staff have joined forces with a leading charity to support people who need life-saving bone marrow transplants.

A total of 41 staff from the company’s office in Knutsford signed up to the Anthony Nolan bone marrow register.

The blood cancer charity has been saving lives for four decades by matching people willing to donate their bone marrow to patients in desperate need of a transplant.

Young dad Matt Clough knows only too well the positive impact joining the register can have on a stranger’s life.

Matt, 25, works for Barclays at Radbroke Hall in Knutsford, and his two-year-old son George was diagnosed with Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome, the same condition that Anthony Nolan, the charity’s namesake, had.

Matt was told George needed a transplant, a match was found for the little boy and he underwent a successful transplant in April 2013.

“We were incredibly lucky to get the 100 per cent match for George,” said Matt.

“I would never be able to thank our donor and Anthony Nolan enough, as without them we wouldn’t have our son here today.

“There’s still a long road ahead for us, but it’s amazing to think a complete stranger gave our son the chance to be a normal boy.

“It’s great that Barclaycard are promoting a charity so close to our hearts, and I hope they recruit more selfless donors to save people like my son. It’s so simple to sign up to the register, but the impact on families like ours is massive.”

Nationally Barclaycard signed up 433 staff onto the bone marrow register across five offices.

Staff were inspired by the campaign to find a match for one-year-old Joey Ziadi, who was diagnosed with an extremely rare blood disorder in February.

“As a mother who loves her son more than anything, it means the world to me to see Barclaycard teaming up with Anthony Nolan to do all they can for Joey and other like him,” said Joey’s mum Kaisha Morris.

To join the register you must be aged between 16 and 30 and in good health. For more information visit www.anthonynolan.org.
